SUPPORT SERVICES

The College has provided a whole range of support services for the students and staff. Here are a few of them:


WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS

Mar Thoma College Campus has now become WiFi!. Departments are provided with computers. Unlimited Wireless Internet access is provided on campus throughout office hours.

 

MEDIA CENTRE

The Centre is an outcome of the realization that there has to be an extended and more efficient utilization of Audio-Visual aids in the promotion of research and learning. The Centre makes available a range of educational equipment and devices for faster and more effective transmission of knowledge. The students make the best use of the Media Centre in their leisure hours. The facilities of the Centre include, slide projector, microfiche reader, overhead projector, 16mm projector, computer and LCD Projector.


LANGUAGE LAB

A Language Laboratory, attached to English Department functions effectively. Both students and teachers are given training in phonetics in the lab. At present there are 18 positions of students, apart from the teacher console.


COMPUTER CENTRE

The Computer Centre with an up-to-date infrastructure, functions in the College with the aim of imparting first grade computer education at nominal fee. The centre also helps the students in the preparation of projects and other works connected with their curricular needs.


CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY/CANTEEN

The college has a Co-operative Society functioning within the campus. It is operating a store and canteen. The Store deals in a wide range of stationery goods and text books. Students can also avail xerox facility at nominal cost from the store. The Canteen, serves light refreshments and lunch to students and staff. Special caterings are also undertaken. All students are advised to get themselves enrolled as members of the Society and help in the realization of its objects to their own obvious advantage as well as the advantage of the fellow students of the college.

HOURS OF BUSINESS

Book Store : 8.30 a.m. to 5p.m. except Sundays
Canteen : 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on all college working days.


REPROGRAPHIC FACILITY

The college has been providing xerox facility for the past several years owing to the increasing photocopying requirements in the field of higher education. As the nature of the work is largely academic, the photo copying charges are fixed at a nominal rate which is just enough to support the operational costs.

 

BANK EXTENSION COUNTER

The Tiruvalla branch of the Indian Bank operates an Extension Counter inside the College Campus on all working days. The banking services on these days are available between 11 a.m and 2 p.m.


HOBBY WORKSHOP

The workshop was set up with UGC assistance for providing the necessary training to students in wood carving, turning, molding, milling, dye making etc. The workshop is placed under the charge of a teacher. The enrolment fee is nominal so as to make the service affordable to all sections of the student body.


MULTI-GYM

A multi gym functions under the aegis of the Physical Education Department. Weight training equipment and other fitness gadgets are housed here, can be used by the students.


HOSTEL

The College provides residential facilities for nearly 300 women students in two hostels with modern facilities. Application forms and details of admission can be had from the Management Office.


SCHOLARSHIPS, ENDOWMENTS AND PRIZES

Various Endowments/Scholarships/Prizes have been instituted by friends and well-wishers of the college to give financial assistance to deserving and promising students in the college, provided their character and conduct are satisfactory. They are given usually for a period of one year unless otherwise laid down as a specific condition by the donor, but may be renewed subject to the satisfaction of the Scholarship Committee. Application in the prescribed form which can be had from the College Office, should be submitted before 3lst of October each year. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to select the candidates for the award of the Endowments / Scholarships / Prizes except in cases where other members have to be on the selection committee according to the terms and conditions of the Endowments/Scholarships/Prizes. Details of Scholarships are appended elsewhere.


STUDENT AID FUND

Student Aid Fund has been established in the College with a view to render financial assistance to poor students. Each student contributes five rupees towards this fund.

 

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Kerala State Scholarship for Arts and Science Courses are available to students in their first year of study in various courses, provided they have secured 50% marks and above in their qualifying examinations and the annual income of their parents does to exceed Rs.10000/- and Rs.12000/- for Degree and Post-graduate courses respectively. The Scholarships are awarded on merit cum means, subject to the number allotted each year.

 

PROFICIENCY PRIZES

1.Prize for proficiency in the final year B.A./ B.Sc. classes are awarded annually to students who secure the highest marks in all the terminal and annual examination taken together in parts I, II (Hindi or Malayalam) and III in each group.

2.Prize for proficiency in the final year M.A / M.Sc. classes are awarded to students who secure the highest marks in all the terminal and annual examinations taken together.

3. Prizes for proficiency in Scripture and Moral instruction are awarded to students of the Degree classes who secure the highest marks in the annual examination in these subjects.
