PROFILE

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Founded in 1952, Mar Thoma College is one of the six institutions of higher learning administered by the Mar Thoma Church. The Church ventured into the field of higher education out of the firm conviction that it has a vital role to play in the task of moulding the lives of young men and women, who should prove themselves worthy before men and God and equipping them to meet the stern challenges of life. From a small beginning with 250 students and 12 teachers, the College has grown into a premier educational institution with 103 members on the teaching staff, 71 non-teaching staff and about 1500 students on the rolls today. The College, accredited by NAAC in 1998-the first college to do so in Kerala, attained the unique distinction of being the first re-accredited college with A grade in the Mahatma Gandhi University.

The late Most. Rev. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the late Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Athanasius, the late Most. Rev. Dr. Alexander MarThoma Metropolitan, the late Mr. K. K. Kuruvilla and many others have contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of this institution over the years.

COLLEGE PRAYER

Lord, our father, eternal God, before whose face generations rise and pass away, age after age the living seek Thee and find that of Thy faithfulness there is no end. Our fathers in their pilgrimage walked by Thy guidance, and rested in Thy mercy. Still, to their children be Thou the cloud day by day, the fire by night. We in this College look upto Thee in thankfulness for the founders of this institution and for those who have laboured for building up noble traditions. We remember those who have passed from this College and are engaged in different walks of life. Be to them their strength and stay. Be to us O Lord, our guiding star for a life of service in the pilgrim way. Amen.

COLLEGE ANTHEM

Hail Alma Mater, hail to thee!
Mar Thoma College, hail to thee!
E’er to you we’ll sing your beauty
All through life we’ll raise your banner
All through life we’ll pace the path of
Knowledge, truth and goodliness
E’er this our motto be.

Hail Alma Mater, hail to thee!
Mar Thoma College, hail to thee!
Hymns of praise we’ll sing joyously
Ne’er forgetting what you gave us
Drinking from your spring of sweetness
Mercy, peace and service lofty-
E’er this our motto be.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE WITH SOCIAL COMMITMENT

Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla has made its indelible mark as a committed Christian institution of good standard in the field of higher education of our State all through the last five decades of its existence. In spite of financial constraints all through its development, the College was able to maintain a high standard in all the fields of its activities and set an example well acknowledged by all. We have also been able to give due importance to the personality development and character formation of our students, majority of whom are women. More than 55000 students have blossomed out to the vast world from this institution so far. Thousands of our alumni are working in the Gulf regions and in many other parts of the world. Mar Thoma College has always been an institution with a difference, which nourished the idea of a family concept. Academic excellence always received top priority, but value education was no less important.

The tasks ahead are many and more challenging. With the dawn of the new era, quality education has become costlier and unaffordable for many. We stand committed to our firm resolve to bring the benefits of higher education within the reach of the less fortunate segments in the society. The College community has passionately attempted to adhere to the motto of the institution:

"Education Par Excellence And Educated for the Society".
